Globo - the electronic music outliers borne out of the Norwich/London 90s underground scene and known for their prescient and satirical adventures in beats, breaks and sonic experimentalism - have announced their forthcoming album ‘Pro War (Redux)’, out on 18 September via Hydrogen Dukebox.
This special edition release will see their sample-heavy, dancefloor friendly 1995 debut album and cult classic ‘Pro War’ issued for the first time on vinyl. Presented as a ‘redux’ version, with brand new artwork and the album features the tracks ‘Onward’ and ‘Beautiful Feeling’; two of Globo’s indie-charting cuts that achieved ‘single of the week’ status upon release in the mid-90s.
‘Pro War (Redux)’ has been carefully assembled and curated by Globo’s 2026 studio lineup of Paul Thompson (electronics/vox), Mark Wernham (electronics), Steve Appleton (guitar/electronics) and Kaoru Sakurai (violin/vox/electronics). The tracklist from the original 1995 CD release of the album has been given the magic Globo treatment and presented here as a perfectly-formed, 44 minute vinyl pressing; as Globo put it: “the same amazing music, tweaked to fit current-day brains.”
More than three decades later, the themes explored in ‘Pro War’ feel, perhaps to no great surprise, strikingly current. Against the backdrop of ongoing global instability, from the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East to the increasingly blurred relationship between media, politics and conflict, the track’s buoyant breakbeats, cut-up vocal samples and a satirical anti-conflict message underscore the uneasy atmosphere that permeates 21st century society, with renewed urgency.
‘Pro War’ took its title through a darkly comic inversion of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s famous slogan, “War Is Over (If You Want It)”. Written against the backdrop of Rwanda, the Gulf War and Bosnia, the album interrogated both the machinery of conflict itself, and humanity’s recurring attraction to it. More than three decades later, the themes explored in ‘Pro War’ feel, perhaps to no great surprise, strikingly current.
“Globo are only doing what everyone else talks about doing”, the press wrote at the time of the album’s release. With ‘Pro War’, Globo took on the formulaic output of the ‘dance’ genre and turned it on its head, offering a journey across a soundscape fuelled by ironic sentiment and eerie samples. From the hypnotic downbeat emotion of 'Adult Channel' to the upbeat pop tones of the indie smash 'Onward', 'Pro War' is an impeccable life event soundtrack across a genre-defying collection of songs.
