This month's Electronic Sound cover feature tells the fascinating story of the soundtrack to 'Drive', one of the finest films of recent times, and how it launched a whole new genre of electronic music. We have talked to Johnny Jewel, College, Electric Youth and more for the piece, while elsewhere in the issue you'll also find DJ Food, Paul Hartnoll, The Go! Team, Clock DVA and The Bug, as well as an archive interview with EMS founder Peter Zinovieff, who sadly died in June.
We have a terrific seven-inch to accompany this issue of the magazine too. 'A Real Hero', a collaboration between French producer College and Canadian duo Electric Youth, is the song director Nicolas Winding Refn considered so important to his 2011 movie that he used it twice. We first hear it as the theme that unites the character known only as Driver (Ryan Gosling) with Irene (Carey Mulligan), before the line "A real human being and a real hero" is reprised at the end of the film to spark the injured and motionless Driver back to life. Our exclusive reissue of 'A Real Hero' is pressed on red vinyl and is a superb addition to the Electronic Sound vinyl collection.
