We have sci-fi electronica legend JEFF MILLS on the cover of the latest issue of Electronic Sound and we're combining the magazine with a limited edition yellow vinyl seven-inch from the techno pioneer and space expert, whose many career highs include an acclaimed series of radio shows for NASA.
From co-founding the fearsome Underground Resistance in Detroit in 1989 to beaming out epic transmissions via his long-running Axis label, Mills has spent decades crafting his singular vision of electronic music, taking in alien soundscapes, cosmic operas, symphonic collaborations and more. As well as delving into his huge back catalogue, our interview with this sonic adventurer and edgy futurist covers subjects such as Marvel comics, 1920s movies, black holes, technology, telepathy, and the similarities between musicians and astrophysicists. It's a gripping read, as you'd expect from a man with one foot in tomorrow and the other somewhere near Alpha Centauri.
Other artists orbiting this issue Include M of 'Pop Muzik' fame, former Propaganda vocalist CLAUDIA BRÜCKEN, and a freshly revitalised RIVAL CONSOLES. We're welcoming back 80s synthpop charmers THE MOOD and 90s electro-dub delinquents CHILDREN OF THE BONG too. Plus Welsh chanteuse GWENNO, Scottish multidisciplinary trailblazer LOMOND CAMPBELL, Swiss heavyweights THE YOUNG GODS, the wonderfully doomy REAPER ON RED from Cincinnati, the wilfully arty WOOLHEADS from Stroud, and a Finnish outfit called THE FUCKINGS. Those of a delicate disposition should look away now.
To accompany the magazine, our latest limited edition seven-inch features two killer tracks from JEFF MILLS under his much-lauded Millsart pseudonym. Pressed on cool yellow vinyl, the A-side is a pristine edit of the sparkling 'Theme From Star Child', a 2025 cut that shows Mills' dedication to precision production and mastering. It's a gloriously hypnotic piece, but the B-side really couldn't be more different. 'Step To Enchantment (Stringent)' is an acid thumper that first appeared on the debut Millsart release back in 1993. While it keeps a consistent tempo throughout, it feigns a constant acceleration, making you feel as if you're being gradually tipped into oblivion. You have been warned!
As with all our bundle releases, this record is only available to readers of Electronic Sound, so be sure to get your copy straight away.
