Minimal synth weirdness here from Oxykitten and the Polytechnic Youth imprint. It takes the form of eight tracks of apparent jolliness which has the culmulative effect of disorientating the listener. There’s a bare minimum of sonic trickery employed on the playful melodies being crunched out on analogue synths, which places it somewhere between the kind of 8-bit tunemongery of early Nintendo games and minimal wave bedroom electronica of the early 1980s. Despite its apparent simplicity, there’s a sophistication behind compositions like ‘Kimsuylder’ and ‘Bobby Pin Blues’. Highly recommended for fans of naked synth purism.
